Ventnor
Ventnor is a Victorian town with a Mediterranean feel. Sheltered from the north, Ventnor benefits from its own micro climate, many visitors have benefited from the revitalising and restorative properties that this micro climate has to offer. Ventnor Botanic Garden houses many rare species of plants which only grow in the sheltered climate of the area. The 22 acre site houses a temperate house & visitor centre.
Ventnor town centre has a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants of which serve locally caught fish and locally brewed ales. Ventnor is built on a series of terraces that zig zag down to the sun trap seafront with part sand part shingle beach. This area is currently being regenerated with a new harbour, off-shore deep sea moorings and new restaurants and retail outlets.
To the east of Ventnor lies the pretty village of Bonchurch recognised for its literary associations. Writers and poets such as Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburn all lived in the area for a time. To the west lies St Lawrence nestling in the Undercliff. Here there are many coastal walks, bays and places of interest to explore.
