THE ROYAL HOTEL IN CELEBRATION WITH THE MICHELIN GUIDE CENTENARY YEAR PRESENT: ROYAL REVIVAL

The Weekend That Was...

Royal Revival celebrated the hotel's achievement of being in 100 years of the Michelin Guide. There was a heady mix of vintage glamour, magic, glorious food and divine entertainment. Some guests made the pilgrimage in vintage cars including a classic 1920's Lagonda Tourer. Jazz sensation Liane Carrol mesmerised the audience with her captivating set on Saturday night showing that she really is made out of music and star dust.

As part of the centenary celebration Phil Baldock, Head of Communication Michelin UK, gave a speech in which he said, "Being featured in both the 1911 and 2011 guides is a fantastic achievement and a tribute to the longevity and consistent quality offered by this establishment. The Michelin Guide is a byword for quality within the hotel, hospitality and of course restaurant industry. So, to have entries in the Michelin Guide that span 100 years is a testament to the enduring appeal and continuous high standards of service offered by the Royal Hotel." Hear! Hear!

The gala dinner on Saturday featured turtles, ducks and a Sussex pond! That's Mock Turtle Soup made with Kemphill Farm beef, oysters and wild mushrooms and The Royal Duck - Chef Alan Staley's take on the classic duck a l'orange. For pudding Pastry Chef Emily Harris, Heston Blumenthal's former pastry chef at Dinner, created a wonderful pudding decorated with flowers and filled full of lemon sauce. A studio was set up in the Albert room and resident photographer, Chris Bamber, made sure that everyone was ready for their close-ups. Click here to find yourself in these stunning photos

During the weekend a vintage bus took guests on a sight-seeing tour along the Military Road, stopping in The Middle of Nowhere for ice-cream. There was a delightful excursion to Dimbola Lodge, Julia Margaret Cameron's former Isle of Wight residence where everyone learned that Tennyson referred to fans that followed him around as 'Cockneys!' He actually had a private path from Farringford, his former home to Dimbola to avoid the aforementioned.  Back at the hotel the Ventnor Film Society showed classic Capra comedies including Arsenic and Old Lace. And throughout the weekend a retro boutique courtesy of Suze's Room and Sisters Grim Vintage tempted customers with divine bits and pieces - one gentleman with a Russian accent threatened to buy the whole pop-up! Well I never.

We really hope that our guests enjoyed the weekend that was and look forward to seeing you all soon.
