Some Exciting Reasons to Visit Ventnor

Ventnor is an exciting place to visit and has all the ingredients for an idyllic British holiday.

It is England’s unspoilt St Tropez – an elegant Victorian seaside town with an attractive, Mediterranean sensibility and its own micro-climate. The town is built into the side of a series of cliffs and dramatic terraces cascading down to a sheltered sand and shingle bay.

Best of all, the town possesses a laid-back charm and elegance which captivates the visitor. It is also becoming a destination for people in search of authentic, well-prepared local food and boasts some of the most exciting restaurants on the island, from Michelin Star restaurants to chic, bolthole hotels, with The Royal as the most sought after place to stay and dine.

Venture from The Royal in any direction and you can soak up the stunning location and myriad attractions of Ventnor, including the world-renowned Botanic Garden, home to many rare plant species and the famous Ventnor Wall Lizards.

The area around the harbour is currently undergoing regeneration and includes a fish restaurant, the Ventnor Haven for the local fishing boats, and a popular shop selling the catch of the day, including lobsters and crab, and there are plans for offshore deep moorings.

Spend some time walking around the quaint High Street and you discover vibrant delis crammed with local goodies, elegant antique shops and galleries, and the famous second hand and bric-a-brac shops that line the winding streets.

To the east of Ventnor lies the pretty village of Bonchurch recognised for its stellar literary associations. Some of our greatest writers and poets including Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburne fell in love with the area, and all lived for a time in the village. To the west lies the tiny fishing hamlet Steephill Cove, with its delightful seafood café and restaurant. Further west you come to St Lawrence, nestling in the Undercliff. Here there are many coastal walks, secret bays and places of interest to explore.
